Eurex Sees 14% Rise in Total Traded Derivatives Contracts in April 2022

Fazzaco learned that Eurex, the largest European futures and options market, has posted its trading numbers for the month of April, revealing an increase in derivatives contracts on a YoY basis.

According to Eurex, total traded derivatives contracts came in at 136.8 million in April, up by 14 percent compared to the prior year's 119.7 million. During the last month, the number of interest rate derivatives contracts stood at 40.7 million, up 21 percent compared to the previous year's 49.2 million. Equity index derivatives contract rose 14 percent to 58.2 million (2020: 51.2 million).
Moreover, Eurex also reported a 6 percent increase in the total contracts traded in equity derivatives. Overall outstanding volume reached EUR 27,422 billion, compared to EUR 23,034 billion the year before. Notional volumes in OTC clearing grew by 19 percent. Additionally, average daily cleared volumes increased by 40 percent overall, with overnight index swaps (up 49 percent) again outpacing overall growth.
At Eurex Repo, average daily term-adjusted volume grew by 47 percent from last year's EUR 135.7 billion to EUR 200.0 billion. The Repo Market showed a strong growth of 75 percent, while the GC Pooling Market grew by 4 percent.
