Euronext FX Trading Volume in April 2024 Skyrockets by 60.2% YoY

Euronext, the largest stock exchange in Europe, announced its monthly trading volume for April 2024, revealing significant growth in Euronext FX trading volume on both a monthly and yearly basis.

Trading Overview for April 2024:

Cash Market

• The number of transactions of the total cash market rose 8% from 49,977,406 contracts in March 2024 to 53,767,122 contracts for the month, an increase of 18% compared to 45,573,578 in April 2023.

• Average daily trading volume of cash markets came in at 2,560,339 contracts, up 2% on a month-on-month basis (MoM) (March 2024: 2,498,870 contracts) and up 1% on a year-on-year basis (YoY) (April 2023: 2,531,865 contracts).

• Transaction value of cash market for the month was €232,489 million, up 3% MoM (March 2024: €226,171 million) and up 25% YoY (April 2023: €185,483 million).

• Average daily value for the month amounted to €11,071 million, down 2% MoM (March 2024: €11,309 million) and up 7% YoY (April 2023: €10,305 million).

Derivatives Market

• Trading volume in the derivatives market totaled 14,064,556 lots for the period, increasing 2.7% compared to 13,696,622 lots in the previous month and jumping 25.9% compared to 11,168,180 lots in the year-ago month. 

• Average daily trading volume of the market came in at 669,741 lots, 2.2% lower than 684,831 lots in March 2024 and 7.9% higher than 620,454 lots in April of last year.

• Total trading volume of futures reached 6,121,598 lots, up 20.7% MoM (March 2024: 5,071,111 lots) and jump 44.1% YOY (April 2023: 4,249,562 lots).

• Total trading volume of options reached 7,942,958 lots, down 7.9% MoM (March 2024: 8,625,511 lots) and up 14.8% YoY (April 2023: 6,918,618 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of futures for the month 291,505 lots, up 15.0% MoM (March 2024: 253,556 lots) and up 23.5% YoY (April 2023: 236,087 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of options for the month was 378,236 lots, down 12.3% MoM (March 2024: 431,276 lots) and down 1.6% YoY (April 2023: 384,368 lots).

Euronext FX

• Trading volume of Euronext FX totaled $630,803 milliion for the month, an increase of 17.0% compared to $539,173 million in the prior month and soaring 60.2% compared to $393,853 million in the prior year period.

• Average daily trading volume of Euronext FX was $28,673 million, rising 11.7% compared to $25,675 million in March 2024 and jumping 45.6% compared to $19,693 million in April 2023.
