Euronext Records the Third Consecutive Monthly Growth in FX Trading Volume for July 2023

Euronext, the largest stock exchange in Europe, announced its monthly trading volume for July 2023, recording the third consecutive month of stable growth in FX trading volume whereas monthly drops in both cash market and derivatives market.

Cash market

• Number of transactions of total cash market for the month amounted to 47,483,932 contracts, 3% lower than 48,736,140 contracts in the prior month and 25% lower than 62,957,122 contracts in the same month of last year.

• Average daily trading volume of cash markets came in at 2,261,140 contracts, up 2% compared to 2,215,279 contracts in June 2023 and down 25% compared to 2,997,958 contracts in July 2022.

• Transaction value of cash market during the period was €191,236 million, a decrease of 10% compared to €213,609 million in this June and a decrease of 8% compared to €206,881 million in last July.

• Average daily value for the month reached €9,106 million, a decrease of 6% compared to €9,709 million in the prior month and a decrease of 8% compared to €9,851 million in the year-ago month.

Derivatives Market

• Total trading volume of futures amounted to 4,771,687 lots, dropping 7.3% compared to 5,150,209 lots in June 2023 and dropping 9.7% compared to 5,285,957 lots in July 2022.

• Total trading volume of options came in at 7,371,575 lots, dropping 9.6% compared to 8,152,652 lots in the prior month and dropping 3.7% compared to 7,653,730 lots in July of last year.

• Average daily trading volume of futures for the month decreased by 2.9% from 234,100 lots in June to 227,223 lots, a decrease of 9.7% on a YoY basis (July 2022: 251,712 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of options for the month decreased by 5.3% from 370,575 lots in June to 351,027 lots, a decrease of 3.7% on a YoY basis (July 2022: 364,463 lots).

Euronext FX

• Total trading volume of Euronext FX was $492,227 million for the month, down 4.3% compared to $514,253 million in June 2023 and up 9.4% compared to $449,861 million in July 2022.

• Average daily trading volume of Euronext FX totaled $23,439 million, up 0.3% compared to $23,375 million in last month and up 9.4% compared to $21,422 million in the same month of 2022.
