Euronext Registers 9.6% MoM Decline in FX Trading Volume for Feb. 2024

​Euronext, the largest stock exchange in Europe, announced its monthly trading volume for February 2024, registering a decline in Euronext FX trading volume on a monthly basis.

Trading Overview for February 2024

Cash Markets

• The number of transactions of the cash market totaled 51,602,160 contracts for the month, a slight increase of 2% compared to 50,648,766 contracts in January 2024 and a decrease of 13% compared to 59,428,258 contracts in February 2023.

• Average daily trading volume of cash markets rose by 7% on a month-on-month basis (MoM) from 2,302,217 contracts to 2,457,246 contracts, dropping 17% compared to 2,971,413 contracts in the year-ago month.

• Transaction value of cash market for the priod amounted to €223,928 million, up 9% MoM (Jan. 2024: €206,217 million) and down 6% on a year-on-year basis (YoY) (Feb. 2023: €237,923 million).

• Average daily value for the month was  €10,663 million, increasing 14% MoM (Jan. 2024:  €9,373 million) and decreasing 10% YoY (Feb. 2023: €11,896 million).

Derivatives Market

• Total trading volume of futures for the month came in at 4,939,132 lots, up 8.3% MoM (Jan. 2024: 4,561,724 lots) and up 6.6% YoY (Feb. 2023: 4,633,802 lots).

• total trading volume of options for the month came in at 8,681,981 lots, up 6.8% MoM (Jan. 2024: 8,129,516 lots) and up 1.0% YoY (Feb. 2023: 8,592,619 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of futures during the period was 235,197 lots, up 13.4% MoM (Jan. 2024: 207,351 lots) and up 1.5% YoY (Feb. 2023: 231,690 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of options during the period was 413,428 lots, up 11.9% MoM (Jan. 2024: 369,523 lots) and down 3.8% YoY (Feb. 2023: 429,631 lots).

Euronext FX

• Trading volume of Euronext FX reported of $495,776 million for February 2024, 9.6% lower than $548,523 million in the prior month and 20.3% higher than $412,193 million in the same period of 2023.

• Average daily trading volume of Euronext FX for the month was $23,608 million, dropping 5.3% compared to $24,933 million in January this year and rising 14.6% compared to $20,610 million in last February.
