Euronext Reports 15.4% YoY Growth in FX Trading Volume for November 2023

Euronext, the largest stock exchange in Europe, announced its monthly trading volume for November 2023, reporting an increase of 15.4% in the total trading volume of its FX market on a yearly basis.

Trading Overview for November 2023

Cash Market

• The number of transactions of the total cash market dropped by 24% from 65,772,058 contracts in November 2022 to 50,123,476 contracts, a decrease of 4% compared to 52,428,748 contracts in the prior month.

• Average daily trading volume of the cash market came in at 2,278,340 contracts, down 4% on a month-on-month basis (MoM) (October 2023: 2,383,125 contracts), down 24% on a year-on-year basis (YoY) (November 2022: 2,989,639 contracts).

• Transaction value of cash market for the period totaled €209,086 million, up 2% MoM (October 2023: €204,481 million) and down 11% YoY (November 2022: €235,438 million).

• Average daily value for the month amounted to €9,504 million, up 2% MoM (October 2023: €9,295 million) and down 11% YoY (November 2022: €10,702 million).

Derivatives Market

• Trading volume in the derivatives markets totaled 13,316,761 lots for the month, decreasing 4.0% compared to 13,870,245 lots in the previous month and decreasing 9.9% compared to 14,787,040 lots in the year-ago month.

• Total trading volume of futures reached 5,063,484 lots, up 1.5% MoM (October 2023: 4,988,352 lots) and down 1.9% YoY (November 2022: 5,159,735 lots).

• Total trading volume of options reached 8,253,277 lots, down 7.1% MoM (October 2023: 8,881,893 lots) and down 14.3% YoY (November 2022: 9,627,305 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of futures for the month was 230,158 lots, up 1.5% MoM (October 2023: 226,743 lots) and down 1.9% YoY (November 2022: 234,533 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of options for the month was 375,149 lots, down 7.1% MoM (October 2023: 403,722 lots) and down 14.3% YoY (November 2022: 437,605 lots).

Euronext FX

• Trading volume of Euronext FX reached $534,940 million for the month, increasing 5.3% compared to $507,790 million in October 2023 and jumping 15.4% compared to $463,708 million in November 2022.

• Average daily trading volume of Euronext FX amounted to $24,315 million, up 5.3% compared to $23,081 million in the prior month and up 15.4% compared to $21,078 million in the same period of last year.
