Euronext Reports 16% Monthly Increase in May 2022 in Total Cash Markets

Fazzaco learned that Euronext, the largest stock exchange in Europe, has released its trading volumes for the month of May 2022, reporting an 16% increase in total cash markets from the previous month.
The Cash Market
According to Euronext, the transaction value of all buy and sell trades, including the values of reported trades minus fixed income, increased 16% from €226 million to €263 million between April and May 2022. It is up 7% compared to last May.
In terms of daily average, the average daily volume (ADV) of all buy and sell trades increased by 1% on a MoM basis from €11.900 million to €11.966 million, and increased 3% on a YoY basis.
When considered, based on the total number of transactions of buy and sell trades (minus fixed income trades), the total trades in the cash market showed an increase of 13% from 68 million trades in April to 77 million trades in May. Contrasted against May 2021's record, there is a 6% increase.
Futhermore, in terms of daily average, the average daily volume (ADV) of buy and sell trades dropped by 3% between April and May, falling from 3.6 million to 3.5 million.
The Derivatives Market
Euronext's derivatives market came in at 15.4 million in volume (in lots), down by 6.8% compared to 14.4 million in volume, recorded in April. On a YoY basis, the shortfall is a relatively marginal 7.1%.
While the index market and commodity markets increased by 4.7% and 2.8%, respectively, on a MoM basis, individual equity commodity markets plummeted by 15.8%.
Euronext FX
The forex spot volume of Euronext FX, previously known as FastMatch, dropped by 1.6% to US$509 million from US$517 million.
On the contrary, when compared to the output in May last year, the forex spot market rose by 30%.
Besides, Euronext FX's ADV dropped 6.1% between April and May 2022 from US$ 24.6 million to US$ 23.1 million.
