Euronext Reports 24.1% YoY Growth in FX Trading Volume for December 2023

Euronext, the largest stock exchange in Europe, announced its monthly trading volume for December 2023, registering a significant yearly growth of 24.1% in Euronext FX trading volume.

Trading Overview for December 2023

Cash Market

• The number of transactions of the cash market totaled 43,355,368 contracts for the last month of 2023, a decrease of 14% compared to 50,123,476 contracts in November 2023 and a decrease of 13% compared to 50,118,488 contracts in December 2022.

• Average daily trading volume of the market came in at 2,281,861 contracts, basically unchanged compared to 2,278,340 contracts in the prior month, but down 4% from 2,386,595 contracts in the same period of 2022.

• Transaction value of cash market for the period amounted to €188,581 million, down 10% on a month-on-month basis (MoM) (November 2023: €209,086 million) and down 4% on a year-on-year basis (YoY) (December 2022: €195,685 million).

• Average daily value for the month was €9,925 million, up 4% MoM (November 2023: €9,504 million) and up 7% YoY (December 2022: €9,318 million).

Derivatives Market

• Trading volume in the derivatives markets totaled 10,543,320 lots for the month, dropping 20.8% compared to 13,316,761 lots in the prior month and dropping 3.9% compared to 10,967,446 lots in the year-ago month.

• Total trading volume of futures came in at 3,840,432 lots, down 24.2% MoM (November 2023: 5,063,484 lots) and down 16.1% YoY (December 2022: 4,579,115 lots).

• Total trading volume of options amounted to 6,702,888 lots, down 18.8% MoM (November 2023: 8,253,277 lots) and up 4.9% YoY (December 2022: 6,388,331 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of futures for the month was 202,128 lots, down 12.2% MoM (November 2023: 230,158 lots) and down 7.3% YoY (December 2022: 218,053 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of options for the month was 352,784 lots, down 6.0% MoM (November 2023: 375,149 lots) and up 16.0% YoY (December 2022: 304,206 lots).

Euronext FX

• Trading volume of Euronext FX totaled $489,610 million for December 2023, 8.5% lower than $534,940 million in November 2023 and 24.1% higher than $394,561 million in December 2022.

• Average daily trading volume of Euronext FX reached $24,481 million, a slight increase of 0.7% compared to $24,315 million in the prior month and jumping 36.5% compared to $17,935 million in December of 2022.
