Euronext Sees 8.8% MoM Growth in FX Trading Volume for March 2024

​Euronext, the largest stock exchange in Europe, announced its monthly trading volume for March 2024, seeing growth in its FX trading volume on both a monthly and yearly basis during the month.

Trading Overview for March 2024

Cash market

• The number of transactions of the total cash market decreased by 3% from 51,602,160 contracts in Feb. 2024 to 49,977,406 contracts for the month, a significant decease of 29% compared to 70,763,586 contracts in March of 2023.

• Average daily trading volume of cash markets came in at 2,498,870 contracts, up 2% on a month-on-month basis (MoM) (Feb. 2024: 2,457,246 contracts) and down 19% on a year-on-year basis (YoY) (Mar. 2023: 3,076,678 contracts).

• Transaction value of cash market for the month was €226,171 million, an increase of 1% compared to €223,928 million in the prior month and a decrease of 23% compared to €292,022 million in the year-ago month.

• Average daily value for the month amounted to €11,309 million, up 6% MoM (Feb. 2024: €10,663 million) and down 11% YoY (Mar. 2023: €12,697 million).

Derivatives Market

• Total trading volume of futures reached 5,071,111 lots for the period, 2.7% higher than 4,939,132 lots in the previous month and 20.1% lower than 6,344,171 lots in the same period of last year.

• Total trading volume of options reached 8,625,511 lots, a slight decrease of 0.7% compared to 8,681,981 lots in this February and a decrease of 21.0% compared to 10,918,181 lots in last year's March.

• Average daily trading volume of futures for the month was 253,556 lots, up 7.8% MoM (Feb. 2024: 235,197 lots) and down 8.1% YoY (Mar. 2023: 275,834 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of options for the month was 431,276 lots, up 4.3% MoM (Feb. 2024: 413,428 lots) and down 9.1% YoY (Mar. 2023: 474,704 lots).

Euronext FX

• Trading volume of Euronext FX totaled $539,173 million for the month, rising 8.8% compared to $495,776 million in the prior month and rising 3.4% compared to $521,214 million in the same period of 2023.

• Average daily trading volume of Euronext FX was $25,675 million, increasing 8.8% MoM (Feb. 2024: $23,608 million) and increasing 13.3% YoY (Mar. 2023: $22,661 million).
