Euronext Sees YoY Decrease in Trading Number Across Markets for September 2023

Euronext, the largest stock exchange in Europe, announced its monthly trading volume for September 2023, registering a slight overall decline in trading number across markets on a yearly basis.

Cash market

• The number of transactions of the total cash market decreased by 26% from 65,916,154 contracts in September 2022 to 48,867,982 contracts for the month, and remained flat on a monthly basis (August 2023: 49,021,716 contracts).

• Average daily trading volume of cash markets came in at 2,327,047 contracts, up 9% MoM (August 2023: 2,131,379 contracts) and down 22% YoY (September 2022: 2,996,189 contracts).

• Transaction value of cash market for the month was €210,059 million, up 8% MoM (August 2023: €195,055 million) and down 7% YoY (September 2022: €226,813 million).

• Average daily value for the month amounted to €10,003 million, up 18% MoM (August 2023: €8,481 million) and down 3% YoY (September 2022: €10,310 million).

Derivatives Market

• Total trading volume of futures reached 5,116,738 lots, up 11.4% MoM (August 2023: 4,595,000 lots) and down 13.6% YoY (September 2022: 5,921,656 lots).

• Total trading volume of options reached 9,586,354 lots, up 26.4% MoM (August 2023: 7,585,179 lots) and up 9.0% MoM (September 2022: 8,798,273 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of futures for the month was 243,654 lots (August 2023: 199,783 lots), up 22.0% MoM and down 9.5% YoY (September 2022: 269,166 lots).

• Average daily trading volume of options for the month was 456,493 lots, up 38.4% MoM (August 2023: 329,790 lots) and up 14.1% YoY (September 2022: 399,922 lots).

Euronext FX

• Trading volume of Euronext FX totaled $503,013 million for the month, down 2.8% MoM (August 2023: $517,568 million) and down 5.6% YoY (September 2022: $532,800 million).

• Average daily trading volume of Euronext FX was $23,953 million, up 6.4% MoM (August 2023: $22,503 million) and down 1.1% YoY (September 2022: $24,218 million).
