European Operation Dismantles Bitcoin Mixer Linked to €1.3 Billion in Illicit Transactions
Authorities in Switzerland and Germany, with coordination from Europol, have shut down Cryptomixer, a cryptocurrency-mixing service alleged to have processed more than €1.3 billion in illicit Bitcoin transfers since 2016.
The cross-border operation, conducted between November 24 and 28, 2025, resulted in the seizure of three servers, the service’s domain, over €25 million in Bitcoin, and more than 12 terabytes of operational data. Europol stated that the platform facilitated laundering activities tied to ransomware groups, dark-web markets, and criminal enterprises dealing in drugs, weapons, and payment-card fraud.
Europol said its cybercrime unit coordinated real-time intelligence sharing and provided forensic support, noting that the service operated on both the clear web and the dark web. Following the raid, authorities placed a seizure notice on the Cryptomixer website.
The action involved Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office and the Prosecutor General's Cyber Crime Centre, as well as police and prosecutorial authorities in Zurich. Eurojust supported the operation with legal and logistical assistance.
The takedown follows Europol’s 2023 operation against ChipMixer and reflects ongoing EU efforts to disrupt cryptocurrency-based money laundering networks.
