Exclusive: Pepperstone Hit by Cyberattack for the Second Time

Fazzaco has learned that the Australia-based global forex broker Pepperstone has been hit by cyber attacks for the second time within two months (first attack on July 22, 2020). Pepperstone said they believed the two attacks were connected and were very likely to be launched by the same criminals.

Compromised information in the first attack mainly included customer name, contacts, brith data, with no information breach risks of accounts, passwords, or bank accounts. In the second attack, Pepperstone said their customer relationship management database was targeted and financial systems including its online trading platform remained safe.

After accessing customer data, those criminals purported they were another trading company to exercise phishing. Fazacon contacted Pepperstone and learned some of the broker's customers did suffer from data breach. Pepperstone said an e-mail would be sent to those affected.
