FalconX, Standard Chartered Form Crypto Partnership

Crypto prime broker FalconX and global bank Standard Chartered announced on Wednesday that they have formed a strategic partnership aimed at serving institutional crypto investors. This collaboration is noted as marking FalconX's first partnership with a global traditional bank and is suggested to indicate growing institutional demand for digital assets channeled through traditional finance pathways.
FalconX is expected to leverage Standard Chartered's banking and foreign exchange services, including the bank's access to a wide range of currencies, to support its institutional clients. Matt Long, FalconX's general manager for APAC & Middle East, commented to Reuters, stating, "Our clients will be able to engage more efficiently in fiat currencies settlements, which means a lot faster settlement, better capital efficiency and overall reduced operational risk." FalconX is described as a California-based firm providing crypto-focused prime-brokerage services, with its clients reported to include some of the world's largest asset managers, sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds, and family offices.
Standard Chartered pointed to increased digital asset adoption by institutional clients as the primary driver for establishing the partnership. Luke Boland, Asia head of fintech at Standard Chartered, stated that the bank's collaboration with FalconX will initially commence in Singapore and is planned to later expand to other countries within Asia, the Middle East, and the United States.
Standard Chartered, a multinational bank headquartered in Hong Kong, has been actively expanding its digital asset business. Last year, the bank launched a digital asset custody service in the United Arab Emirates. In April, it formed a partnership with digital exchange OKX to enable institutional clients to utilize cryptocurrencies as collateral.
The broader market context provided notes that the global cryptocurrency market surpassed a $3 trillion market value in November, following the election of Donald Trump as U.S. president, which reportedly fueled expectations of a golden era for digital assets. Standard Chartered has projected that the overall value of digital assets could reach $10 trillion by 2026. FalconX, founded in 2018, was last valued at $8 billion following a $150 million funding round in 2022 and is backed by investors including Wellington Management, Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC, and Tiger Global Management.
