The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) reported a sharp rise in regulatory interventions in 2024, with 19,766 financial promotions withdrawn or amended - a 97.5% surge compared to 2023. The crackdown targeted sectors including cryptoassets, debt solutions, and claims management companies (CMCs), with 9,197 CMC promotions alone pulled for exploiting vulnerable consumers through housing disrepair and motor finance claims.

Lucy Castledine, the FCA's Director of Consumer Investments, emphasized the regulator's intensified efforts: "Misleading and illegal financial promotions are on the rise. We're ensuring promotions meet clear, fair, and accurate standards while collaborating with platforms to curb harmful content." The FCA also revealed that 46 authorized CMC firms faced enforcement, and 20 individuals linked to "finfluencers" were interviewed under caution in 2023.

New rules, such as the Section 21 Gateway, now require firms to seek FCA approval before promoting unauthorized products. The agency issued 2,240 warnings about scam entities in 2024, urging consumers to report suspicious activity via its official channels.
