Fiserv Gains Full Control of AIB Merchant Services

Payments technology company Fiserv has completed the acquisition of the remaining 49.9% stake in AIB Merchant Services (AIBMS), its joint venture with AIB Group. The deal gives Fiserv full ownership of one of Ireland's largest providers of payment solutions and a leading e-commerce acquirer in Europe.
The U.S.-listed company said the transaction strengthens its growth strategy across Europe, where competition in the payments sector continues to intensify. Fiserv highlighted plans to accelerate the rollout of Clover, its point-of-sale and business management platform, which it describes as "the world's smartest point-of-sale system."
Under the terms of the agreement, AIB Group will continue referring businesses that require card acquiring services exclusively to Fiserv. This ensures continuity for AIB's existing clients while expanding Fiserv's reach into the market.
Fiserv, a Fortune 500 company and member of the S&P 500 Index, positioned the acquisition as part of its broader commitment to scale, innovation, and enhanced digital banking solutions. The company already provides services to merchants, banks, and financial institutions globally, and the AIBMS acquisition is the latest step in its European expansion strategy.
