Former Nomura Employee Arrested for Violent Crimes

On October 30, 2024, Hiroshima Prefecture police arrested a former employee of Nomura Securities on allegations of robbery, attempted murder, and arson of an inhabited building.
The incident has generated concern among clients and the public, prompting Nomura Securities to respond with both apologies and a commitment to enhance security protocols.
In a statement addressing the incident, Nomura expressed, "We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy and apologize to our clients who suffered because of this incident." The firm underscored its commitment to cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation, stressing that such incidents "must never happen at a financial institution entrusted with looking after its clients' assets."
Nomura has introduced several policy changes to address concerns and restore trust. These include new pre-approval procedures for Wealth Management visits to clients' homes and tighter monitoring of employee movements.
Furthermore, Nomura is implementing a block leave policy, stricter compliance evaluations, and ethics training. The firm also dispatched a Senior Managing Director to its Hiroshima branch to oversee the situation directly, pledging to "create an environment where clients can have peace of mind."
