Looking back on the past year, macroeconomic development has been sluggish and layoffs have swept across various industries around the world, especially the financial sector.

In the banking sector, Twenty of the world's biggest banks shed at least 61,905 jobs in 2023, as banks sought to protect profit margins during a drought in dealmaking and debt and equity sales, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

According to Layoffs.fyi, a platform that tracks job cuts across the tech sector, 1,179 companies laid off more than 2,60,000 employees in 2023. By comparison, 1,064 tech companies had eliminated 1.64 lakh jobs in 2022, according to the data in the tracker. The crypto industry suffered heavy layoffs with more than 13,400 employees culled across 108 companies.

In addition, with startups laying off around 15,000 employees so far in 2023 amid a funding slump, the next year may see more firings as companies focus more on efficiency and integrating AI capabilities to cut costs.

Despite this, Fazzaco found that this week there are multiple financial firms, brokerages, fintechs and crypto firms in particular, are strengthening their business development and finance teams with new hires. Let's look at what jobs they're offering and what are their responsibilities.

1. FP Markets​ - Regional Business Development Manager - MENA

FP Markets, a well-established globally regulated Australian broker, is looking to recruit a Regional Business Development Manager - MENA in its Cyprus office. Reporting to the company's Head of Business Development, the qualified candidate will develop the country, territory or region he/she has been assigned to including but not limited to converting leads into clients and acquiring and establishing business relationships with new and existing partners.

Requirements:

• Strong preference will be given to candidates with FX/CFD and online trading industry experience;

• Fluent English is essential with the preference towards individuals with working experience or connections in the region;

• Minimum Bachelor's degree (Master degree preferred) in Accounting, Business, management, Economy and/or marketing and related disciplines;

• Excellent communication and written skills.

2. Matrixport - Marketing Director

Singapore-based crypto lender Matrixport is hiring a Marketing Director for its digital asset custodian, Cactus Custody. with focus on expanding its custody business.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, or related field;

• 8+ years of work experience, including 3-5 years of experience in the digital currency industry, with knowledge of blockchain, CeFi, DeFi, and other related areas, as well as existing resources in the digital currency market;

• Minimum 3 years of experience in managing marketing teams, with the ability to develop brand-building plans and inspire and motivate teams;

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders;

• Bilingual in English and Mandarin;

• Based in Singapore.

3. Swissquote - Financial Officer

Swissquote, a leading provider of online financial services, is looking for a Financial Officer to join its Finance Team in Luxembourg.

Requirements:

• Experience in working on Finance and Accounting division for at least 3 years;

• Fluency in English - Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) – French would be considered an asset;

• Knowledge in banking industry and banking regulatory environment especially regulatory rules concerning general prudential requirements (CRR, CRDV) accounting treatments (IFRS, LuxGaap) including understanding the content of regulators' circulars;

• Understanding of audit requirements and tax regulations;

• Solid knowledge of SQL, PlexusFAS and Core banking system T24 would be considered an asset;

• Experience preparing and presenting facts and figures to senior management;

• Knowledge of EU regulations 680/2014, 575/2013 and 2016/867 such as templates FINREP, SOLVENCY, LAREX, LCR, NSFR, LEVERAGE, ALMM and ANACREDIT) is considered as a strong asset.

4. StoneX Group​ - Relationship Manager

The diversified global brokerage StoneX Group is searching for a Relationship Manager who will act as a trusted advisor to the firm's high-net-worth clients, working in collaboration with its client-facing, dealing, marketing, research, and global payment teams. The role will involve regular contact and follow-up directly with clients to introduce, promote, and assist them with obtaining the trading solutions they need.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 1+ years of relationship management experience within the financial services sector;

• Ability to place Spot FX, CFD, and Commodity trades, provide quotes, and facilitate discussions regarding equity markets, fixed income markets, international markets, and economic conditions;

• Experience within a sales environment working with diversified solutions;

• Exceptional customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal;

• The ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining reliability and punctuality;

• Ability to determine minimum maintenance requirements for all currency pairs, CFDs, metals, and commodities;

• The ability to calculate the liquidation values of the products the company offers;

• RG 146 qualification.

5. Exness - Blockchain Developer

The international fintech company Exness is hiring a Blockchain Developer who will be responsible for implementing a new blockchain network and decentralized applications for the StateCraft project.

Requirements:

• 3 years of experience in developing blockchain applications;

• 5 years of experience in back-end development;

• Good understanding of Ethereum development and Solidity;

• Understanding of back-end development, data structures, and algorithms;

• Deep knowledge of various blockchain technologies;

• Familiarity with P2P networks and basic cryptography;

Pepperstone, a regulated online Forex and CFD trading platform, is looking for a Business Development Executive for APAC who will be instrumental in driving incremental business for Pepperstone, focusing specifically on the APAC Region.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience or exposure to IB/affiliate marketing in the CFD industry;

• Collaborative ability within teams, across functions, and offices;

• Proficient in spoken and written English, and another language in the Asia Pacific Region;

• Practical experience working in a fast-paced environment;

• Comprehensive understanding of affiliate and IB business, along with the CFD industry;

• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain B2B and broader stakeholder relationships at all levels;

• Familiarity with MetaTrader 4/5 and cTrader software will be highly regarded;

7. Nium - Senior Director - Finance

Nium, the leader in real-time global payments, is searching for a Senior Director of Finance to lead and manage its Finance team in London. Reporting to Nium's SVP Finance, the role will be responsible for the development of financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to grow company assets and report accurate financial results.

Requirements:

• 15 years experience in a Finance leadership role;

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with post-qualified experience;
