France's AMF Begins Accepting Crypto License Applications

In a notable regulatory development, the French markets regulator, Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), has commenced the process of accepting applications for Crypto Asset Services Provider (CASP) licenses. This initiative positions France as a leader in the European Union's evolving regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies, ahead of the broader implementation of the EU's Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulations.
The AMF's new licensing framework, effective from December 30, introduces comprehensive requirements for firms involved in the custody, administration, and trading of crypto-assets. This move is part of France's proactive approach to enhance regulatory oversight and ensure the protection of investors in the crypto market.
As of May last year, the AMF had already registered 74 companies under its regulatory framework. Other major EU economies, such as Germany, Italy, and Spain, have yet to announce similar licensing processes. Starting from July 2026, all companies offering crypto services within the EU will be required to hold a CASP license, aligning with MiCA regulations. The AMF's initiative marks a significant step in establishing a regulated environment for cryptocurrency activities in Europe.
