FSCA Suspends Banxso's License Amid Regulatory Concerns

South Africa's Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) has temporarily pulled the financial service provider license of online trading platform Banxso amid serious concerns over its business practices. The regulator's investigation uncovered issues such as misleading Deepfake ads and aggressive sales tactics that could pressure clients into making rushed decisions without proper risk assessments. These practices violate regulatory guidelines and raise ethical questions about how clients are treated.

The FSCA's provisional withdrawal allows Banxso to respond while the investigation continues. Meanwhile, the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) has stepped in, freezing seven of Banxso's bank accounts due to potential financial misconduct. Banxso has contested this freeze in the Western Cape High Court, but the court upheld the FIC's actions. Adding to the pressure, the National Prosecuting Authority has secured a preservation order for the funds in these accounts, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Despite the turmoil in South Africa, Banxso still holds licenses in other regions, including a recent Investment Dealer license from Mauritius, enabling it to offer financial services internationally.
