As previously reported, Wang had sought a non-custodial sentence due to his cooperation in the conviction of former partner Sam Bankman-Fried. Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled time served, three years of probation, and the forfeiture of illicit assets for Wang, marking the final sentencing among FTX's key executives following the platform's catastrophic collapse in 2022.

Wang had previously admitted to fraud charges in December 2022, confessing to collaborating with Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced FTX co-founder, and Caroline Ellison, the former head of Alameda Research, to misappropriate $8 billion in customer funds. While Ellison was handed a two-year prison term, Bankman-Fried received a 25-year sentence, and Ryan Salame, the former co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets, was sentenced to 7.5 years. Nishad Singh, another senior figure at FTX, had his case resolved in October, similarly resulting in time served and probation.

Judge Kaplan attributed Wang's lighter sentence to his substantial cooperation with authorities during the investigation. In court, Kaplan acknowledged Wang's assistance as "remarkable" and deserving of leniency. Wang expressed regret for his role, describing his actions as taking the "cowardly path" and pledging to spend his life making amends.

With Wang's sentencing finalized, focus shifts to ongoing legal battles concerning Bankman-Fried. His defense team has filed multiple appeals, arguing for a retrial on grounds of alleged unfair treatment during the initial proceedings. These efforts are set to play a pivotal role in determining the final chapter of FTX's legal saga.

The collapse of FTX remains one of the cryptocurrency sector's most significant scandals, with its executives' legal consequences providing critical lessons for the industry's regulatory and ethical future.
