Funding Surge Concentrates on Kalshi and Polymarket
Investor capital is rapidly consolidating around two prediction-market platforms—Kalshi and Polymarket—as both report sharp increases in valuation and trading activity.
Kalshi’s valuation jumped from $5 billion to $11 billion within weeks, backed by more than $1.3 billion in new funding this quarter. Polymarket is reportedly seeking a round valuing the company between $12 billion and $15 billion, signaling that investors view both firms as potential long-term leaders in event-based trading.
Regulatory clarity is a key driver. Kalshi operates under CFTC oversight, while Polymarket received an amended order that allows it to reenter the U.S. through a licensed venue. Both platforms have also seen rapid growth in volume and open interest, with each approaching $300 million and tracking toward record monthly activity.
The funding concentration suggests investors expect the sector to favor a small number of large, liquid venues rather than a broad field of competitors. With the U.S. election cycle approaching and institutional interest rising, prediction markets may be entering a more mature phase heading into 2025.
