Garanti BBVA Reaches Agreement to Sell Romanian Unit to Raiffeisen Bank

Garanti BBVA has agreed to sell its entire Romanian franchise to Raiffeisen Bank S.A. for €591 million. The buyer is the Romanian subsidiary of Austria's Raiffeisen Bank International AG.
The Romanian unit of Garanti BBVA is the country's tenth-largest financial institution by assets, holding an approximate 2% market share. Its total assets stood at €4 billion as of the end of 2025, representing less than 5% of Garanti BBVA's total assets.
BBVA estimates the sale will have a net positive effect, boosting its CET1 capital ratio by about 10 basis points and adding roughly €112 million to the group's net income.
The transaction is pending regulatory approvals and is anticipated to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
