Georgios Papassavas Appointed CEO of HFM Amid Industry's Tech Leadership Shift
Georgios Papassavas assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at retail brokerage HFM in February, a move underscoring a broader industry pivot toward technology-driven leadership. His promotion follows nearly a decade with the Larnaca-based firm, where he most recently served as Chief Information Officer overseeing technological infrastructure. Papassavas began his career in software development at Amdocs in 2008 and later led financial software teams at brokerage FxPro.
HFM, formerly known as HotForex, rebranded in 2022 as part of its evolution from a forex-focused broker to a multi-asset platform. The appointment of Papassavas marks a significant trend, as it is the second recent instance of a major broker elevating its technology chief to the top executive position. Melbourne-based Eightcap similarly promoted its technology head, Bryn Newell, to CEO recently.
This shift reflects changing industry priorities where generative AI and advanced technology integrations like the Model Context Protocol (MCP) are reshaping trading platforms and client interactions. Analysts note that competitive advantage is increasingly tied to technological infrastructure, making executives with deep technical expertise highly sought after to lead firms in this new landscape.
