Two trading platforms, GMI and WeTrade, are restricting Malaysian clients from accessing their services in response to newly introduced regulations in the country.

WeTrade has quietly updated its terms to block Malaysians from signing up. Users attempting to register from Malaysia now see a notice reading, "WeTrade is unable to provide its products or services in your area due to regulatory restrictions." The company has not issued any public comment on the policy change.

GMI has taken a more transparent approach, announcing that it will no longer accept new clients or introducing broker (IB) applications from Malaysia beginning September 15. The firm added that it will gradually close out open positions of existing Malaysian customers over the following month and return their funds.

The restrictions stem from new Malaysian rules that impose severe limits on the marketing activities of brokers and IBs. Under the revised framework, violators face significant financial penalties and even the possibility of prison time. The measures are seen as part of a broader effort by authorities to tighten oversight of financial products offered to retail clients.

For Malaysian traders, the sudden pullback by international brokers highlights the country's growing regulatory barriers. For brokers, the compliance risks appear too high to continue operating in the market, at least under current conditions.
