Two of the Wall Street banking Giants, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo Bank, kicked off the week by announcing their new rounds of layoffs. Wells Fargo Bank will cut 103 jobs at an Orlando site tied to its consumer and small business banking division, while JPMorgan plans to lay off 63 employees in Jersey City, New Jersey. Despite the layoffs, total workforce of JPMorgan stood at 296,877 at the end of the first quarter, up 8% from a year earlier, according to a filing.

Fintech companies are also cutting costs in this way, Microsoft most notably. The tech giant reportedly plans to slash its head count by another 276 positions in Washington after laying off roughly 10,000 employees earlier this year. Navi Technologies, a non-banking financial start-up, has begun laying off employees across all departments. The layoffs are expected to affect at least 100-150 people, with the overall number of layoffs expected to exceed 200. Navi's product and analytics functions are likely to be affected by the job cuts, a source was quoted as saying.

Crypto companies have not been immune to layoffs. Bitkub Capital Group, the parent company of Thailand's largest digital asset exchange Bitkub Online, has fired about 5.5% of its personnel and curbed employee benefits to put a lid on costs amid economic headwinds. And Circle, the company behind the stablecoin USD Coin (USDC), has announced that it is reducing staff and cutting investments in non-core business activities. At the same time, the company is reportedly identifying new investment opportunities and hiring staff in its core businesses.

It can be seen that companies are not just cutting jobs to control costs, they are also adjusting their internal operations through layoffs and hiring. This week, Fazzaco found that there are many financial companies, especially brokers and fintechs, who are eager to hire new forces to strengthen their marketing, BD and compliance support teams.
