HashKey Capital Receives SFC Approval to Offer Discretionary Crypto Management for Professional Investors
HashKey Capital has received approval from Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) to offer discretionary account management services for virtual assets (VA) to professional investors. This authorization, under HashKey’s existing type 9 licence, allows the firm to manage investment portfolios that include spot crypto assets and derivatives. Investors will have access to a selection of pre-approved exchanges, and HashKey can make tailored investment decisions based on specific objectives.
The approval positions HashKey Capital as one of the few fund managers authorized by the SFC to manage VA portfolios on a discretionary basis. With this designation, HashKey will be able to offer professional investors a range of services across the entire investment cycle. This includes customized investment mandates, with the option to select from pre-designed strategies or collaborate with the firm to develop bespoke solutions. Investment options extend beyond spot trading to include over-the-counter (OTC) and derivative products.
In addition to bespoke strategies, HashKey’s approval to operate across multiple exchanges provides flexibility for clients, who can choose from a curated list of platforms. These exchanges have been selected for their adherence to security standards and operational integrity, ensuring that investors are not confined to a single platform.
Once investment mandates are established, HashKey Capital will manage the execution of the strategy, overseeing asset allocation, buying and selling, and continuous monitoring. This approach aims to reduce the administrative burden on professional investors, allowing them to focus on broader financial objectives.
As Hong Kong seeks to establish itself as a hub for virtual assets in the Asia-Pacific region, regulatory clarity remains a challenge for certain products, especially OTC and derivatives. HashKey Capital’s new approval to offer discretionary account management addresses some of these gaps by providing investors with a structured means to navigate these emerging financial products. While the SFC is working on establishing more definitive regulations in these areas, HashKey’s services are positioned to help institutional investors manage risks associated with the evolving regulatory landscape.
The move also reflects broader trends in the crypto investment space, where professional investors are increasingly seeking ways to engage with new products while complying with developing regulatory frameworks. HashKey’s discretionary account management services aim to facilitate this process by helping clients balance the need for timely exposure to emerging products with regulatory considerations.
