HIVE Digital Technologies Appoints Craig Tavares to Lead Buzz HPC as Company Pushes for Expansion in Cloud and HPC Services
HIVE Digital Technologies has announced the appointment of Craig Tavares as the new President and Chief Operating Officer of Buzz HPC, the company's high-performance computing (HPC) and GPU Cloud division. The move aims to strengthen Buzz HPC's position in the competitive cloud and data center markets, focusing on expanding its capabilities to address increasingly complex and demanding computing workloads.
Tavares, who has over two decades of experience in digital infrastructure, cloud services, and telecom, joins the company after holding various leadership roles across major players in the industry. His experience spans across engineering, technology strategy, and business development, with notable positions at companies like Aptum and Apple. Tavares' expertise includes launching cloud services, forming strategic partnerships with Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, and overseeing a global network of data centers. Additionally, his prior role in developing one of North America's first HPC data centers directly linked to a power plant provides him with a unique set of skills to help Buzz HPC achieve its goals.
"I'm excited to contribute to the growth of Buzz HPC and leverage both existing and new resources to expand its infrastructure and service offerings," said Tavares, noting that the company's high-performance AI GPU platforms, powered by renewable energy, provide a solid foundation for future growth.
The company also announced a strategic incentive plan aimed at rewarding key employees, including Tavares, for their contributions toward the company's growth. HIVE Digital Technologies has granted 1,090,000 restricted share units (RSUs) as part of its long-term incentive program, which will vest over a one-year period. This initiative follows findings from Harvard Business School, which highlight the benefits of non-linear rewards in fostering organizational success and driving innovation.
The announcement comes as HIVE Digital Technologies continues to position itself in the rapidly evolving blockchain, AI, and digital asset sectors. With operations spanning across multiple countries, including Canada, Sweden, and soon Paraguay, the company is focused on expanding its green energy-powered digital infrastructure and reducing its environmental impact.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve, HIVE aims to capitalize on Tavares' leadership to accelerate its cloud and HPC offerings, responding to the growing demand for scalable, sustainable infrastructure solutions in sectors like artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency mining.
