HKEX Announces New Board Appointments as Hong Kong Strengthens Market Leadership
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has announced the appointment of Ding Chen to its Board of Directors, alongside the reappointment of Carlson Tong and Joseph Yam. The appointments, made by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, will take effect following the conclusion of HKEX’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and will extend until the conclusion of the 2027 AGM.
Meanwhile, Nisa Leung will retire from the Board after the 2025 AGM, concluding four years of service.
Ding Chen brings extensive experience in the financial services industry, particularly in the asset and wealth management sector. She joined CSOP Asset Management Limited in 2010 and played a key role in establishing the Chinese Asset Management Association of Hong Kong (HKCAMA) in 2013, where she served as founding president and is now an honorary president. She has been instrumental in advancing key cross-border financial initiatives, including the RQFII scheme, Mainland-Hong Kong Mutual Recognition of Funds, ETF Connect, and Wealth Management Connect.
In recognition of her contributions to Hong Kong’s financial markets, Ding was awarded the Medal of Honour by the Hong Kong SAR Government in July 2021 and was appointed as a Justice of the Peace in July 2024.
Welcoming the appointments, Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan stated, “Ding Chen has extensive experience in the financial services industry, particularly in asset and wealth management. Her deep understanding of the securities market and strong connections with market participants will help HKEX develop in a diversified manner, catering to the needs of various issuers and investors, while enhancing Hong Kong’s role as a global fundraising hub.”
HKEX Chairman Carlson Tong also expressed his support for the new appointments, stating, “We warmly welcome the appointment of Ms. Ding Chen and the reappointment of Mr. Joseph Yam to the HKEX Board. Ms. Ding’s vast knowledge in the securities market and her extensive experience in the financial services industry will be key in guiding HKEX’s future development.”
Tong also extended gratitude to outgoing board member Nisa Leung, saying, “On behalf of HKEX, I would like to thank Ms. Nisa Leung for her valuable contributions and dedicated support to HKEX over the past four years.”
These appointments come at a time when HKEX is further strengthening its position as a key international financial center. The exchange continues to expand its role in global capital markets, reinforcing its commitment to market connectivity, innovation, and regulatory excellence. The addition of Ding Chen, along with the continued leadership of Carlson Tong and Joseph Yam, underscores HKEX’s focus on ensuring a well-governed and strategically aligned board to navigate evolving market dynamics.
With Hong Kong’s robust financial ecosystem and increasing cross-border opportunities, the new appointments are expected to further enhance the city’s appeal as a global financial hub, driving sustained growth and international engagement.
