HKEX Names John Hsu as Group Chief Technology Officer

Following the appointment of Catherine Yien​ as Head of Listed Issuer Regulation last week, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) announced Wednesday that it has named John Hsu as Managing Director and Group Chief Technology Officer. He succeeds Richard Leung, who will become Group Chief Information Officer (CIO).

According to HKEX's official press release, Hsu will join the Group on September 29, 2023 and will become a member of the Management Committee of HKEX. He will lead the Group's IT infrastructure, operations, development and support functions in Hong Kong, as well as HKEX's Innovation and Data Lab and its Mainland Technology Centre. Hsu will report to Richard Leung.

Hsu currently serves as the CIO for Asia Pacific at HSBC, where he has been with for over four years. Previously, he had held several senior tech roles in well-known firms, including Huawei Technologies, S.F. EXPRESS, Deloitte and Oracle Corporation. Hsu earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley, and a Master's Degree in Information Systems and Management from Carnegie Mellon University.

Leung will maintain his responsibility for the Group's technology strategy and functions in his new position, while also focusing on several significant group-wide projects. He will continue to report to HKEX's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nicolas Aguzin.
