HKEX Posts Securities Market’s ADV of $159.3 Billion in August 2021

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) recently released its trading volumes for the month of August 2021, reporting the market capitalization in securities markets of $46.8 trillion, which is 10% higher compared to August 2020.

HKEX highlighted that the average daily turnover (ADV) of securities markets was $159.3 billion, an increase of 18 percent from $135.2 billion for the same period last year. 

In addition, for the first eight months of the year, the ADV hit $183.8 billion, an increase of 46 percent when compared with $126.1 billion for the same period last year.

The exchange further unveiled the ADV of derivative warrants, ETFs and Debt Securities for the first eight months of 2021, noting that they were $11.8 billion, $6.5 billion and $410 million, up by 34 percent, 25 percent and 64 percent compared with the same period last year respectively.

In the derivatives market, HKEX reported an average daily turnover for futures and options for the first eight months of 2021 of 1,209,685 contracts, representing an increase of 2% compared with the 1,186,931 contracts posted in the same period last year.

Last week, HKEX has announced the appointment of John Buckley as Head of Exchange Operations and Transformation​, effective from December 2021.
