Shipman succeeds Gabriel Castello, who was named interim CEO of HSBC's global private banking earlier this month as part of a broader restructuring led by CEO Georges Elhedery aimed at streamlining costs and enhancing decision-making.

Shipman has served as the Chief Risk Officer for HSBC's Swiss Private Bank for over six years, where he played a critical role in overseeing risk management strategies. His extensive experience in the financial services sector includes various non-executive director roles within the HSBC Group, such as Chair of HSBC Asset Management Switzerland Ltd since September 2022 and Director of HSBC Private Bank (Luxembourg) SA since January 2021.

Before his tenure at HSBC, Shipman held significant positions in operational risk management at UBS Investment Bank and Ernst & Young LLP. His background also includes leadership roles in risk management at HSBC's Global Banking & Markets and Commercial Banking divisions.

With Shipman at the helm of the Swiss Private Bank, HSBC aims to navigate its next phase of growth effectively, focusing on delivering value to clients while ensuring robust risk management practices are in place. As the industry continues to evolve, his leadership will be crucial in maintaining HSBC's competitive position in the private banking sector.
