HSBC Restructures MENAT Capital Markets Leadership as Strategic Focus Shifts Toward Region
HSBC has appointed Mohammed Fannouch as co-head of its Capital Markets and Advisory (CMA) division for the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey (MENAT), as part of a broader realignment of its regional investment banking structure. He will jointly lead the business alongside Samer Deghaili, who is based in the United Arab Emirates.
Fannouch, who has worked at HSBC since 2008, remains based in Riyadh. Prior to the new role, he served as co-head of the investment banking business in Saudi Arabia. His background includes previous work in transaction advisory at EY and several board-level roles at Saudi-based companies. He holds a finance degree from Concordia University's John Molson School of Business.
This leadership reshuffle aligns with HSBC’s recent global restructuring, which has led to a concentrated investment banking presence in Asia and the Middle East. The bank began winding down its M&A and equity operations in Europe and the Americas earlier this year.
With key capital markets leadership roles now located in both Saudi Arabia and the UAE, HSBC is reorganizing its MENAT operations to reflect ongoing business priorities and resource allocation in regions where investment activity remains comparatively active.
