ICE Registers Slight Drop in Trading Volume of Overall Financial Products for Feb. 2024

Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE), a leading global provider of data, technology, and market infrastructure, has updated its trading data for February 2024, reporting a total volume of overall financial products of 65,365,134 contracts, 4.5% lower than 68,473,977 contracts in the prior month and 10.3% higher than 59,236,876 contracts in the year-ago month.
More specifically, interest rates volume for the month totaled 59,415,965 contracts, decreasing 4.3% from 62,072,280 in January 2024 and increasing 13.9% from 52,177,436 contracts in February 2023. The average daily volume (ADV) of interest rates came in at 2,829,332 contracts, compared to 2,821,467 contracts in the previous month and 2,608,872 contracts in last February.
Total volume of equity indices during the period amounted to 5,420,939 contracts, down 7.1% compared to 5,834,377 contracts in last month and down 14.2% compared to 6,320,685 in the year-ago month. ADV of equity indices was 271,047 contracts, compared to 277,827 in the prior month and 332,668 contracts in the same period of 2023.
In February 2024, volume of FX and other financial products came in at 224,348 contracts, a decrease of 13.0% compared to 257,968 contracts in January this year and a decrease of 4.5% compared to 235,009 contracts in February of last year. ADV was 11,217 contracts for the month, down 8.7% MoM (January 2024: 12,284 contracts) and down 9.3% YoY (February 2023: 12,369 contracts).
Furthermore, total futures and options reported 168,639,859 contracts in February 2024, dropping 2.8% from 173,455,665 contracts in January and jumping 24.7% compared to 135,234,039 in last February.
