ICE Reports 21.9% MoM Decrease in Trading Volume Across Financial Products for October 2023

Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE), a leading global provider of data, technology, and market infrastructure, has updated its trading data for October 2023, reporting a total volume of overall financial products of 47,179,451 contracts, 4.7% lower than 49,527,971 contracts in October 2022 and 21.9% lower than 60,371,041 contracts in September 2023.
More specifically, total volume of interest rates for the month amounted to 40,342,525 contracts, dropping by 2.5% compared to 41,375,880 contracts in last year's October and dropping by 16.5% compared to 48,315,171 contracts in the prior month. The average daily volume (ADV) of interest rates was 1,833,751 contracts, compared with 1,970,280 contracts in the same month of 2022 and 2,300,722 contracts in September this year.
Volume of equity indices for the period totaled 6,244,452 contracts, a decrease of 10.0% compared to 6,936,595 contracts in October 2022 and dropped by 45.1% compared to 11,382,304 contracts in September 2023. ADV of equity indices was 283,839 contracts, 14.1% lower than 330,314 in October of last year and 50.1% lower than 569,115 contracts in the previous month.
In October 2023, total volume of FX and other financial products amounted to 592,474 contracts, down 51.3% YoY (October 2022: 1,215,496 contracts) and down 12.0% MoM (September 2023: 673,566 contracts). ADV of FX and other financial products was 26,931 contracts, down 53.5% compared to 57,881 contracts in October 2022 and down 20.0% compared to 33,678 contracts in September 2023.
Volume of futures and options for the month came in at 142,367,574 contracts, an increase of 20.1% compared to 118,564,274 contracts in October of last year and a slight decrease of 2.1% compared to 145,465,794 contracts in the prior month.
