ICE Sees Stable Growth Across Financial Products Markets for December 2023

Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE), a leading global provider of data, technology, and market infrastructure, has updated its trading data for the last month of 2023, reporting a total volume of overall financial products of 60,778,202 contracts, 4.2% higher than 58,353,996 contracts in the prior month and 32.0% higher than 46,043,863 contracts in the same period of 2022.

More specifically, interest rates volume for the month came in at 49,267,653 contracts, dropping 4.9% compared to 51,828,424 contracts in November 2023 and rising 49.0% compared to 33,061,004 contracts in December 2022. The average daily volume (ADV) of interest rates was 2,463,383 contracts, increasing 4.6% compared to 2,355,837 contracts on a month-on-month basis (MoM) and jumping 56.5% compared to 1,574,334 contracts on a year-on-year basis (YoY).

Total volume of equity indices during the period amounted to 10,862,282 contracts, up 83.5% compared to 5,918,992 contracts in the previous month, but down 9.3% compared to 11,971,808 contracts in the year-ago month. ADV of equity indices jumped by 92.7% MoM from 281,857 contracts to 543,114 contracts, decreased 4.7% compared to 570,086 contracts in December 2022.

In the last month of 2023, volume of FX and other financial products totaled 648,267 contracts, an increase of 6.9% compared to 606,580 contracts in November this year but a decrease of 35.9% compared to 1,011,051 contracts in December of 2022. ADV was 32,413 contracts, up 12.2% MoM (November 2023: 28,885 contracts) and down 32.7% YoY (December 2022: 48,145 contracts).

Furthermore, total futures and options reported 143,597,167 contracts for the month, decreasing 5.4% compared to 151,791,127 contracts in November and increasing 32.7% compared to 108,210,716 contracts in the same period of the prior year.
