ICE's Financial Products Trading Volume Drops for the Fourth Consecutive Month in July 2023

Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE), a leading global provider of data, technology and market infrastructure, has posted its trading data for July 2023, recording the total volumes of overall financial products of 42,095,783 contracts, a decrease of 10.9% compared to 47,246,160 contracts in July 2022 and a decrease of 21.3% compared to 53,512,364 contracts in June 2023.

More specifically, the exchange registered a total volume of interest rates of 35,907,901 contracts, 10.2% lower than 39,968,262 contracts in the same period of last year and 11.3% lower than 40,481,921 contracts in the prior month. The Average Daily Volume (ADV) of interest rates was 1,709,900 contracts, comparing to 1,903,251 contracts in July 2022 and 1,840,087 contracts in June 2023.

Total volume of equity indices amounted to 5,645,441 contracts, down 10.8% compared to 6,332,004 contracts in last July and down 54.6% compared to 12,429,406 contracts in the previous month. ADV of equity indices was 282,272, comparing to 316,600 contracts in July 2022 and 591,876 contracts in June 2023.

Total volume of FX and other financial products for the month came in at 542,441 contracts, dropping 42.7% compared to 945,894 contracts in July of last year and dropping 9.7% compared to 601,037 contracts in the prior month. ADV of FX and other financial products was 27,122 contracts, comparing to 47,295 in July 2022 and 28,621 contracts in June 2023.

Volume of total futures and options was 116,967,043 contracts, up 7.8% compared to 108,503,497 contracts in the same period of last year and down 16.5% compared to 140,051,978 contracts in the prior month. ADV of futures and options was 5,762,857 contracts, comparing to 5,330,012 in July 2022 and 6,581,519 contracts in June 2023.
