The London-listed broker confirmed on Friday that the transaction, first announced in September, has now been finalised after securing regulatory approval in Singapore. The deal was agreed at an initial enterprise value of AUD 178 million.

Strengthening Crypto Capabilities Across Key Regions

The acquisition marks a strategic step in IG’s expansion into digital assets across the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East. According to Matt Macklin, IG’s Managing Director for Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, the deal enhances the group’s ability to meet rising client demand for crypto products in regulated markets.

Under the terms of the agreement, Independent Reserve’s management team and employees have joined IG, while retaining a combined 30% ownership stake in the business.

Adrian Przelozny, CEO and co-founder of Independent Reserve, said the combination of the exchange’s crypto expertise with IG’s regional scale would help extend access to regulated digital asset trading to a broader client base.

Independent Reserve Performance and Valuation

Independent Reserve reported revenue of AUD 35.3 million for the 2025 financial year, nearly doubling from AUD 18.8 million a year earlier. The exchange also posted EBITDA of AUD 9.9 million, representing a margin of 28.2%.

The platform currently serves 129,400 funded accounts, holds AUD 1.7 billion in assets under custody, and records an average of 116,000 monthly active users. IG has previously disclosed that the acquisition valued Independent Reserve at approximately five times its revenue from the most recent financial year.

IG’s Growing Focus on Digital Assets

IG’s interest in cryptocurrency trading has become increasingly visible over the past year. In June, the broker began offering access to digital assets through a partnership with Uphold and became the first UK-listed brokerage to obtain crypto registration from the Financial Conduct Authority.

According to earlier disclosures, IG generated £0.3 million in revenue from spot cryptocurrency trading between June and August last year, with the number of active monthly crypto traders reaching 9,700.

The upcoming crypto proposition is expected to build on this momentum as IG continues to integrate digital assets into its broader multi-asset trading offering.
