IG Group Poised to Enter FTSE 100 as easyJet Faces Potential Exit in March Review

Source: Valerie Tareq Sikder

IG Group Holdings is set to join the FTSE 100 index, according to indicative changes released by FTSE Russell ahead of the March 2026 quarterly review. Preliminary adjustments are based on market data as of 20 February 2026, while the formal review will reference closing prices on 3 March. Official announcements are expected after market close on 4 March.

If confirmed, IG Group would move from the FTSE 250 into the FTSE 100 as part of the quarterly rebalancing. Index-tracking funds and ETFs would adjust portfolios to include the stock, while mid-cap funds benchmarked to the FTSE 250 would remove it. Such index reviews often trigger increased trading activity around the effective date as passive investors realign their holdings.

FTSE 100 Updates

The indicative list shows IG Group Holdings and Tritax Big Box REIT as candidates for promotion to the FTSE 100. easyJet and Rightmove are indicated for removal. Historically, stocks entering the FTSE 100 can experience short-term liquidity gains, whereas deletions may face temporary selling pressure.

FTSE 250 Rebalancing

Potential additions to the FTSE 250 include CVS Group, easyJet, Rightmove, and The Schiehallion Fund. Companies set for removal from the mid-cap index include IG Group Holdings, NCC Group, Pinewood Technologies Group, and Tritax Big Box REIT.

FTSE Russell conducts quarterly reviews in March, June, September, and December. Index membership is determined primarily by market capitalisation, with automatic promotion and demotion rules designed to minimize subjectivity.

Operational Adjustments Across Business Units

Alongside index developments, IG Group has been restructuring its operations internationally. The firm recently closed its South Africa office, following the cessation of commercial operations in the country nine months earlier. Local clients were offered the option to transfer accounts to other offshore entities. The South Africa office primarily served marketing functions, and its closure reflects broader efficiency-driven adjustments. IG has also surrendered its local ODP licence, which was required for offering contracts for difference.

The broker has previously exited multiple ventures and investments, including Spectrum Markets, Brightpool, Raydius, BadTrader, and Small Exchange. Despite these exits, IG continues to operate in other markets such as the UK, Germany, Australia, Bermuda, and the United States via its subsidiary tastyfx, while exploring opportunities in cryptocurrency trading.
