Institutional FX Trading Volumes Rise Slightly to $91.20 Billion in June 2021

The trading volumes of leading institutional FX and ECN platforms in June have been revealed, generally showing a slight increase, with only two venues reflecting a decline.

The report covers Average Daily Volume (ADV) of institutional FX trading volumes from eight major venues, namely Cboe FX, CLS, Euronext FX, FxSpotStream, Integral, Moscow Exchange, PrimeXM and Refinitiv.

Institutional FX volumes reflected a slight increase, from $89.44 billion in May to $91.20 billion in June on average levels. Cboe FX, Euronext FX, FxSpotStream, Integral, Moscow Exchange and PrimeXM all reported a slight increase in average daily FX trading volumes in June versus May, with only CLS and Refinitiv reflecting a decline.

The detailing trading volumes for each venues are as follows:

Cboe FX

Cboe Global Markets, Inc. (Cboe: CBOE) reported its June global FX spot trading volume, with $33.37 billions total average daily notional value (ADNV) in 22 trading days, which represents an increase of 7 percent compared to May 2021.

CLS

CLS saw average daily traded volumes of USD1.9 trillion in June, up 6.2 percent compared to May 2021.

There was also an increase in FX swaps volumes of 11 percent. Compared to June 2020, FX spot volumes decreased by 4 percent.

Euronext FX

Euronext FX's average daily volumes (ADV) is $19.35 billion in June 2021, which represents an increase of 3.8 percent compared to May 2021 and a decrease of 3.8 percent compared to the same period in 2020.

FxSpotStream

In June, FxSpotStream's total figure came in at $1.08 trillion, which is up 13.4 percent from $952 billion in the previous year.

The average daily volume (ADV) rose by 3.7 percent to $49.01 billion in June compared to May 2021.

Integral

Integral's average daily volumes (ADV) across Integral platforms totaled $51.0 billion in June 2021, which represents an increase of 8.7 percent compared to May 2021 and an increase of 45.3 percent compared to the same period in 2020.

Moscow Exchange

The total trading volumes across Moscow Exchange's markets In June grew by 11.7 percent to RUB 81.5 trln (RUB 72.9 in June 2020).

FX Market trading volume grew by 5.9 percent to RUB 26.5 trln (June 2020: RUB 25.0 trln), with spot trades amounting to RUB 7.6 trln and swap trades and forwards totaling RUB 18.9 trln.

The FX Market's ADTV was RUB 1,204.6 bln (USD 16.6 bln), compared to RUB 1,251.5 bln (USD 18.1 bln) in June 2020.

PrimeXM

PrimeXM has recorded a total of $1.04 trillion in monthly trading volume in June across the 3 major Data Center locations, which represents a 16.45 percent YoY increase in trading activities.

The Average Daily Volume (ADV) in June was $47.31 billion. The total number of trades in June was 34.56 million.

Refinitiv​

Refinitiv's average daily volumes (ADV) was $89.0 billion, which is up 8.5 percent from the previous month's $82.0 billion.
