Interactive Brokers Expands Stablecoin Funding as Multi-Asset Competition Intensifies
Interactive Brokers (IBKR) has introduced stablecoin funding, external wallet transfers, and nine new digital assets to its platform. This move extends the cryptocurrency functionality within its multi-asset brokerage accounts. The launch comes amid increasing competition where traditional brokers are now rivaling crypto-native platforms on both infrastructure and trading costs.
The most notable new feature is stablecoin withdrawals. Clients can now withdraw U.S. dollars via automatic conversion into USDC, PYUSD, and RLUSD, enabling transfers outside standard banking hours, including on weekends. IBKR is positioning its crypto expansion on four key pillars: cost, funding access, wallet interoperability, and product breadth.
The broker states its crypto commissions start between 0.12% and 0.18%, with no additional spreads, a pricing structure that undercuts many dedicated crypto platforms. The stablecoin infrastructure facilitates capital movement at all times. Clients can also transfer assets between IBKR and external wallets, a feature not commonly available on traditional brokerage platforms. Cryptocurrency trading is now integrated alongside stocks, options, futures, and IBKR's unified prediction market.
This expansion follows IBKR's recent integration of AI tools like ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude for research and trading. The broker has also widened its digital asset roster beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum to include tokens such as Pax Gold, Uniswap, and Aave. "We believe digital assets should be integrated into a client's broader financial experience, not treated separately," said Milan Galik, CEO of Interactive Brokers.
IBKR's latest rollout highlights a competitive shift towards advanced crypto functionality rather than mere access. Brokers are now competing on features like wallet connectivity, stablecoin funding, and broader digital asset offerings. IBKR combines these with multi-asset access, regulated infrastructure, and established clearing relationships, as stablecoin funding becomes a standard feature for brokers in the digital asset space.
