Interactive Brokers has expanded the investment options available within Swedish tax-efficient Investeringssparkonto (ISK) accounts. The enhancement allows clients to trade futures and options on international exchanges and access portfolio lending while retaining the ISK structure's tax benefits.

An ISK is a Swedish investment savings account where individuals pay an annual tax based on the account's average value, rather than on individual profits or dividends. This allows frequent trading without reporting each transaction.

The broker stated that Swedish investors had previously faced limits, as most local platforms only supported Nordic-listed derivatives within ISKs. "Swedish investors should not have to choose between tax efficiency and global market access," said Kevin Keller, CEO of Interactive Brokers Ireland Limited. He added that the move enables investors to diversify internationally and hedge strategically.

Clients can apply for portfolio loans within the ISK framework, with tiered interest rates starting from 2.335%. The broker confirmed no charges for account opening, maintenance, or transfers. Existing clients can add an ISK account through the platform's interfaces.

The development contrasts with the UK's Individual Savings Account (ISA) market, which has annual subscription caps but offers fully tax-free growth. Competition in the UK ISA sector has intensified, with firms like XTB and Trading 212 recently expanding their offerings.
