Interactive Brokers Opened the Door to (Almost) Every AI Tool. One Name Is Missing
Interactive Brokers has expanded its AI account connector to support any tool built on the Model Context Protocol, allowing clients to link accounts from Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity and Windsurf without going through certified marketplaces. The broker published a connector URL that clients paste into an AI tool’s custom server settings and then authorize via IBKR’s login screen for a single account.
Until this week, clients seeking AI portfolio access had only three certified routes: ChatGPT, Claude and Grok. The broker first connected to Anthropic’s Claude on June 1, adding ChatGPT and Grok three weeks later, both through vetted marketplaces. Interactive Brokers said the underlying MCP protocol has not changed, but the restriction on which clients could call it has been removed.
Other platform vendors have already moved in a similar direction. Spotware opened cTrader to AI agents in May, ThinkMarkets launched ChelseaAI in June allowing order placement without logging into the platform, and MetaQuotes added MCP support to MetaTrader 5 in July. Prop firm FundedNext released a read-only server this month. Interactive Brokers stops at drafted instructions that the client must manually convert into orders.
Clients can ask connected tools how holdings might react to rate changes or market moves. The AI reads the account and writes instructions, but nothing reaches the market without human approval. Chief Executive Officer Milan Galik said the change gives clients “the flexibility to use the AI applications they prefer.” The broker has not disclosed how many clients have connected since June.
FM Intelligence counted 10 brokers and platform vendors integrating AI agents into live client accounts in the first half of 2026, categorized as read-only, human-approved or autonomous. The connector joins a suite of in-house tools including natural language screeners, Investment Themes search, Ask IBKR and automated news summaries. Interactive Brokers reported second-quarter revenue of $1.9 billion and 5.2 million client accounts, with commission revenue up 30% to $673 million. Support for Gemini remains pending.
