JPMorgan Chase is considering legal action in response to ongoing inquiries from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) regarding the Zelle payment app. The CFPB's investigation comes amid growing concerns about the proliferation of fraud and scams on Zelle, which has become the leading peer-to-peer payment network in the U.S. since its launch in 2017. Zelle, which is co-owned by several major banks, including JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America, has faced scrutiny from lawmakers and regulators, particularly with regard to consumer protection.

In a recent filing, JPMorgan Chase revealed that it is weighing its options, including the possibility of litigation, in response to the CFPB's investigation. The bank asserts that it already exceeds legal requirements by reimbursing customers for unauthorized transactions and certain types of scams that occur on the platform. JPMorgan's spokesperson emphasized that the bank is prepared to challenge the CFPB to ensure that any regulatory actions remain within legal bounds. The CFPB has yet to respond to JPMorgan's statements or the ongoing investigation, and it remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
