US-based cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has activated its Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) license to provide services in all 30 member countries of the European Economic Area. The license, granted by the Central Bank of Ireland, enables Kraken to operate across the EU under a single regulatory framework, offering a unified set of protections and compliance standards for its clients.

MiCA is intended to create consistent consumer safeguards, operational transparency, and regulatory oversight across Europe's digital asset markets. For Kraken users, this means access to over 450 digital assets, institutional-grade services such as over-the-counter (OTC) trading, local funding options, and streamlined onboarding processes.

The company noted that the license allows "passporting" of services to all EEA jurisdictions, removing the need for separate national authorizations. It also builds on Kraken's existing European regulatory foundation, which includes a MiFID license for derivatives trading and an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license for fiat services and payments.

Kraken has described the milestone as part of its commitment to security, compliance, and innovation in the cryptocurrency industry. The firm said it intends to continue expanding its range of assets and services under the MiCA framework, while maintaining EU-wide protections for its clients.
