Kraken Launches Pre-IPO Perpetual Contract for SpaceX

Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has expanded its product suite with the listing of a pre-IPO perpetual contract for SpaceX, allowing clients to take leveraged long or short positions on the private aerospace company ahead of its public debut. The cash-settled contract, PF_SPCXXUSD, offers up to 5x leverage with multi-collateral margin and has no expiry.
The product is not available to clients in the United States, European Economic Area, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Pricing is based on a proprietary Kraken PreMarket Synthetic index, which is smoothed and bounded to mitigate volatility and flash liquidations in early, thin markets.
SpaceX is anticipated to finalize its initial public offering this week at a valuation estimated near $1.77 trillion. Upon a successful IPO, Kraken plans to convert the contract to standard tokenized-equity pricing, with adjustments to margin requirements and other specifications.
The synthetic pricing index is derived from the contract's own market activity, featuring exponential smoothing and a mark-price clamp of ±0.25% to prevent erratic moves from triggering liquidations. This structure differs from standard perpetual contracts, which track external spot indices, and is designed for orderly trading during the pre-IPO phase.
