Kraken Taps RegTech Veteran Andreas Roussos to Lead Cyprus Unit

Crypto exchange Kraken has appointed Andreas Roussos as Executive Director of its Cyprus office. Roussos brings over a decade of regulatory technology expertise from Limassol-based firm Point 9, specializing in EMIR reporting, MiFID II compliance, and cross-border regulatory infrastructure.
His hiring aligns with Kraken's strategic push into the European market. In 2025, Kraken acquired CFD broker Greenfield Wealth, securing a Cyprus Investment Firm license for MiFID access. The company's activity in Cyprus accelerated, with a recent hiring spree for roughly 50 Cyprus-linked roles. Kraken also obtained a MiCA license from the Central Bank of Ireland, solidifying its EU regulatory footing.
Roussos' appointment coincides with heightened regulatory scrutiny. The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission plans on-site visits and desk reviews as part of ESMA's 2026 Common Supervisory Action, while the MiCA grandfathering period concludes in July.
Kraken is expanding its product offerings in Europe. This year, it launched 70 traditional finance futures markets for eligible clients, including equity indices, commodities, and FX contracts, alongside over 290 crypto perpetuals. These are offered via Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Limited, the rebranded Greenfield Wealth entity. This follows a 2025 rollout of regulated digital-asset futures.
The exchange further provides tokenized equities and equity-linked perpetual futures through its xStocks offering. Tokenized equities have grown to approximately US$800 million in market capitalization, according to Foresight Ventures. Kraken has also partnered with Deutsche Börse to explore integrated trading, custody, and settlement infrastructure for crypto, equities, and derivatives.
Against this backdrop, Roussos' hire signals Kraken's and the industry's increasing focus on regulatory and institutional expertise.
