Latest CFTC Report Shows Retail Forex Funds in US Rose 2.39% in May 2025

The latest monthly report released by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) indicates a rise in retail forex deposits for May 2025 compared to April. The total volume across six institutions increased by 2.39% month-over-month, amounting to $507,309,614.

This report covers registered retail foreign exchange dealers (RFEDs) and broker-dealers operating in the US, including CHARLES SCHWAB Futures & Forex LLC, Gain Capital Group LLC, Interactive Brokers LLC, OANDA Corporation, tastyfx, and Trading.com Markets.

In May 2025, the total forex funds held by these six registered brokers amounted to US$507,309,614, marking an increase of US$11,826,796 compared to the US$495,482,818 reported in April 2025. Year-over-year, the total volume was down 7.38% compared to US$547,720,095 in May 2024.

Registered Brokers' Performance

Here's how the six brokers performed month-over-month: CHARLES SCHWAB (-2.00%, decreasing US$1,256,592), Gain Capital (+1.91%, increasing US$4,031,354), Interactive Brokers (+6.79%, increasing US$2,245,692), OANDA (+3.65%, increasing US$5,337,206), tastyfx (+4.05%, increasing US$1,611,486) and Trading.com (-5.51%, decreasing US$142,350).

Year-on-Year Changes of the Six Brokers

Compared with the data from the same month last year, three of the brokers saw yearly increases:

Gain Capital (+3.44%, increasing US$7,163,054), Interactive Brokers (+28.79%, increasing US$7,893,654), and Trading.com (+11.84%, increasing US$258,540).

The following brokers experienced yearly declines: CHARLES SCHWAB (-1.45%, reducing US$906,396), OANDA (-18.91%, reducing US$35,327,897), and tastyfx (-31.99%, reducing US$19,491,436).

As per CFTC requirements, Futures Commission Merchants (FCMs) and Retail Foreign Exchange Dealers (RFEDs) must submit monthly financial reports to the CFTC's Market Participants Division (MPD) within 17 business days after the end of the month. This month's report reflects the financial information received as of June 30, 2025, detailing the financial situation of the relevant companies as of May 31, 2025.
