Mastercard has announced its plan to acquire the U.S.-based threat intelligence platform Recorded Future in a substantial deal valued at $2.65 billion. This acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approval and expected to close by the first quarter of 2025, is set to bolster Mastercard's cybersecurity capabilities and integrate Recorded Future's advanced threat intelligence into its services.

Founded in 2009, Recorded Future is recognized as the world's largest threat intelligence company. The platform utilizes cutting-edge artificial intelligence to analyze a vast array of data sources, including the deep web, social media, and technical feeds, to provide real-time insights into emerging cyber threats. This proactive approach helps organizations mitigate potential security risks before they escalate. Recorded Future serves over 1,900 clients across 75 countries, including 45 national governments, reflecting its extensive reach and influence in the global cybersecurity landscape.

Mastercard's Chief Services Officer, Craig Vosburg, says the proposed acquisition "adds to how we deliver that greater peace of mind before, during and after the payment transaction".

Recorded Future's CEO, Christopher Ahlberg highlighted the strategic alignment with Mastercard, noting that the partnership will advance their intelligence strategy and facilitate the scaling of their business to better address evolving cybersecurity challenges.
