This decision comes as part of the company's ongoing efforts to strengthen its financial position and safeguard against potential risks in the Canadian dollar (CAD)-denominated assets currently held in its treasury.

The company's Board of Directors has unanimously approved the initiative, citing concerns over the volatility of Canada's economy, which is heavily reliant on oil exports and faces rising national debt. With such challenges threatening the purchasing power of Canadian assets, Matador has chosen to mitigate these risks by embracing alternative assets that offer greater stability.

In a move that signals confidence in digital assets, Matador plans to allocate an initial $4.5 million into Bitcoin in December 2024. The company has also indicated that this initial purchase will be followed by a series of measured, incremental Bitcoin acquisitions. Alongside this, Matador intends to shift the majority of its cash reserves from CAD to USD, reflecting broader global trends where institutions are increasingly seeking alternative stores of value amidst concerns about currency depreciation.

The decision to include Bitcoin in its corporate treasury underscores Matador's belief in the cryptocurrency as a robust store of value, especially in light of its growing institutional adoption. The firm's management has emphasized Bitcoin's role in mitigating the risks of currency debasement and sees it as an essential component of their long-term capital preservation strategy.

"We are taking this step to future-proof our treasury," said Sunny Ray, President of Matador Technologies. "Bitcoin is not only a valuable asset in its own right but also supports our broader mission to integrate digital assets into our technology offerings, particularly as we work on launching a gold-backed product platform."

That product, known as Matador's digital gold platform, will allow users to own, trade, and store digital representations of physical gold, with the gold reserves held securely at the Royal Canadian Mint. Matador's decision to incorporate Bitcoin as part of its treasury management is also closely tied to the development of this digital gold platform. After evaluating alternatives such as Ethereum and Solana, the company's board concluded that Bitcoin's security, liquidity, and institutional trustworthiness make it the ideal foundation for the project.

"Our commitment to creating a product that embodies trust, permanence, and value leads us to Bitcoin as the platform of choice for our digital gold initiative," stated Deven Soni, CEO and Chairman of Matador Technologies. "We believe Bitcoin offers the stability and reliability required to underpin the success of our gold-backed offerings."

Looking ahead, Matador plans to continue refining its strategy with a closer evaluation of technology platform alternatives in the first quarter of 2025. The goal is to finalize the platform that will power the digital gold product, which will initially be rolled out to a limited audience. Shareholders can expect continued updates on Matador's treasury execution and custody strategy in the weeks to come.

This bold move marks a significant step in Matador Technologies' efforts to innovate in both the digital asset and financial management spaces. With Bitcoin poised to play a central role in the company's strategy, Matador is positioning itself as a leader in the intersection of technology and traditional asset management.
