Fazzaco has recently learned that numerous FX brokers' clients in mainland China are unable to directly access their brokers' servers on MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 (MT4/5). Several sources familiar with the matter indicate that MetaQuotes appears to have blocked IP addresses from mainland China.

According to publicly available information, MetaTrader 4/5 has consistently been the most widely used trading platform in the mainland China retail forex trading market. Despite the country's relatively strict regulations on forex trading, transacting through the MT4/5 platforms offered by overseas brokers has been a choice for some investors. Currently, there has been no official announcement from MetaQuotes confirming this IP blocking.

This event has sparked widespread market attention, suggesting that MT4/5, which holds a dominant market share, may be restricting forex trading activities for users in China. This development is also expected to accelerate the shift of traders and brokers towards alternative platforms and technological solutions. In recent years, due to the regulatory pressures faced by MetaQuotes and the concerns of traders and brokers regarding reliance on a single platform, an increasing number of brokers have begun offering other multi-terminal trading software. Furthermore, the development of proprietary apps to integrate multi-platform trading functionalities has become a trend, aiming to enhance user experience.

It is worth noting that some forex trading platforms, including the websites for MT4 and MT5, were previously included in the Reserve Bank of India's list of unauthorized trading platforms. This highlights that the operation and accessibility of trading platforms can be influenced by regulatory policies in different regions.
