MOEX Reports 7.3% MoM Increase in Trading Volumes in August 2022

Moscow Exchange (MOEX) has posted its trading volumes for the month of August, showing a jump across most key segments.

​According to the press release, the total trading volumes across MOEX's markets grew by 7.3 percent to RUB 81.2 trln in August compared to July's RUB 75.7 trln. Growth leaders were the the Bond Market (35.9%), Precious Metals Market (21.3%), FX Market (20.4%), Equity & Bond Market (15.5%) and Money Market (5.5%). All comparisons are with July 2022.

Total trading volume on the Equity and Bond Market in August came in at RUB 1,872.1 bln compared to the prior month's RUB 1,492.7 bln. Money Market turnover increased by 5.5 percent to RUB 52.9 trln compared to the previous month's RUB 50.2 trln. Turnover in precious metals (spot and swaps) rose by 21.3 percent to reach RUB 12.3 bln, of which RUB 11.9 bln (3.5 t) was gold and RUB 0.4 bln (9.6 t) was silver.

In terms of Derivatives Market, its volumes fell to RUB 4.9 trln, compared to July 2022's RUB 6.4 trln.

In addition, FX Market trading volume increased by 20.4 percent to reach RUB 20.9 trln with spot trades amounting to RUB 8.4 trln and swap trades and forwards totaling RUB 12.5 trln.

​Moscow Exchange also announced its plans to resume after-hours trading​ on the Equity & Bond Market, as well as pre-market trading on the Derivatives and FX Markets on 12 September 2022. This will mean trading will run for 12 hours on the FX Market, 14 hours on the Equity and Bond Markets and 15 hours on the Derivatives Market.
